OUR STORY
‘Twas a slow day at work, and Edwin was shooting paper baskets. With his feet up on the desk getting absolute buckets, Edwin watched planes take off into the horizon. That’s when he began to wonder, “how can we change the game of flight.” Stuck in this daydream vortex, Edwin thought about how the early pioneers did it, like Lindbergh, who flew across the Atlantic Ocean. Tangent to tangent, his thoughts bounced from early flight, to powered flight, to supersonic flight. The evolution of aviation cycled through his mind.
Working nearby was Holly, who had enough of observing this daze. She walked up and swatted his last shot, waved her finger, and said “YO, you hear about Flugtag? It’s going to be in Pittsburgh.” And that’s when it clicked – human powered flight. Edwin, Holly, and squaw assembled with the quest of pushing the limits of human powered flight. Immediately hitting the drawing board, the team schemed up an app and submitted it to Red Bull.
The rest of the story? Unwritten.
THE MISSION
Plain and simple: take human powered flight to unseen heights. We want to augment the aviation industry and write our own chapter in the history books.
THE INSPIRATION
Bill Nye
Shout out to this man for making science fun. You made every substitute teacher day in grade school worth it. You instilled into us that science is cool and makes the world turn. Keep on keep oning, Bill. We salute you.
90's Dance Hits
There’s no other ring like a 90s dance hit. Centered around this genre, the movie Night at the Roxbury inspired the team theme. Thank you Butabi brothers (Will Ferrell and Steve Kattan) for showing us what perseverance truly is, by not being discouraged from entering “The Roxbury.” You have inspired us to not be denied of our mission while looking flashy. We’ll be bobbin’ our noggins in the name of Emilio.
Moms
Moms have always taught us to be fearless and told us we could be whatever we wanted. Thanks to our moms, they’re giving us the courage to show off our engineering skills and showmanship. This consequently has translated to the lunacy of pushing an experimental home built hang glider off a 22-foot deck.
